I started working on this textbook with the idea that learning can be enjoyable and useful. Being able to think critically is unfortunately something that is being emphasized less and less in schools as time goes on. I tried to put as much as possible into this book that would get students interested in the learning process. The topics were carefully chosen as topics that would get students moving around and exploring the world around them. I added interesting and very old pictures from the past that would help them connect to days gone by.

Each unit contains mini presentations and major presentations that will help students become more confident and more interested in speaking and exploring ideas that don’t get brought up enough. In the back of the book, I added a journal section, where students can express themselves freely and practice talking about ideas in the units.

The result is a book that encourages speaking, being social, and exploring and observing. It is a book about giving presentations in English, but it also expands on many other ideas. It is also a memory that people can keep with them long after the book is completed.

I hope people can use this book to capture that lost element that made learning interesting.

この教科書の制作を始めたのは、「学ぶことは楽しく、そして役に立つものだ」という考えからでした。
残念ながら、近年では学校教育の中で「批判的思考力」の重要性が徐々に軽視されつつあります。
私は、学生が学ぶことに興味を持てるように、できる限り多くの工夫をこの本に詰め込みました。

扱うトピックは、学生たちが実際に動き、身の回りの世界を探求したくなるような内容を慎重に選びました。
また、過去の非常に古くて興味深い写真を多く取り入れ、昔の時代とつながるきっかけとなるようにしました。

各ユニットには、ミニプレゼンテーションと本格的なプレゼンテーションが含まれており、学生が自信を持って英語を話し、自分の考えを発表する力を育てます。
さらに、巻末にはジャーナルのセクションを設け、各ユニットのテーマについて自由に自分の考えを表現・練習できるようにしました。

この本は、「話すこと」「社会性を育てること」「観察し、探求すること」を促す構成になっています。
英語でのプレゼンテーションを学ぶ教科書でありながら、それにとどまらず、さまざまな思考や視点を広げていく内容になっています。
学習が終わった後も、心に残る「思い出」として手元に置いてもらえるような本を目指しました。

この本を通して、「学ぶことが面白い」と感じられた、あの大切な感覚をもう一度取り戻してもらえたら幸いです。
